Bringing Christmas Home [Sermon Series]
// December 7th, 2011 // No Comments » // General, Sermons

Greetings! I hope you are having a great day. I wanted to let you know about a new sermon series Pastor Sean is beginning this week at River City Northwest called “Bringing Christmas Home”. For most of us, the Christmas Season is SOOOOO busy- packed with things to do and places to go and people to see; so much so that it can become easy to loose sight of the real meaning of Christmas. This series is aimed at helping us refocus on that simple truth and also at awakening us that the home is the “missional outpost” of the Church in our communities. During the series, Pastor Sean is going to unpack what a missional home looks like and how it can impact it’s community with the love of Christ at Christmas and beyond. This is a great series for all of us, and is a great opportunity to invite someone with you to check out what God is doing at River City. Pray about who you can invite to join you this Sunday.
This is going to be a great series, and we would love to invite you to join us for the kick-off this Sunday at 10:30 am at the Northwest Campus which is located at 12266 Bandera Rd, Helotes, TX 78023. We are 1/4 mile outside loop 1604 on Bandera Rd. We hope to see you this Sunday!
Additionally, make plans to join us for our Christmas Eve Service on Saturday, December 24th at 4:30pm. This will be an hour long service of awesome worship and Christmas Carrols and devotional message about how much the Father loves us and the freedom we have in Christ. It is going to be a great evening, so make plans to join us on the 24th, and plan on brining some friends and family with you!
It is an honor to serve you and your family. I look forward to seeing you soon.

12 Days of Christmas
// December 2nd, 2011 // No Comments » // Community, Events, General, Real Life Stories

Good morning River City!! I hope you are having a great day. I wanted to send you a quick email to remind you that yesterday we kicked off River City’s 12 Days of Christmas. It is so easy to become consumed with busyness and things to do during the Christmas season, so much so that we loose sight of it is all about — the birth of our Lord Jesus and the beginning of God’s beautiful plan to restore relationship with the children He loves. And what better way to celebrate the life of Christ than by serving?
Every other day between now and Christmas Eve will present you with an opportunity to serve some one and show them how much God loves them. Our goal is that all across the three campuses of River City and the communities they serve, joy, hope, and Christ’s love will spread like wild fire.
To find out what each day’s challenge is, visit the church website, or follow us on Facebook or Twitter to stay up to date. Once you’ve participated, come back each day and click our “I did it” button at www.reallife.org/Christmas; then share pictures and stories on Facebook or Twitter!
We hope this Christmas Season is one of joy and happiness for you and your family, but most importantly, we hope it is a season in which you grow closer to Christ and experience His love and blessing like never before. God bless, and Merry Christmas.

The Gifted [Sermon Series]
// October 28th, 2011 // No Comments » // General, Sermons
YOU ARE GIFTED! I’m sure that you already knew that, but I thought it was worth a mention. This weekend I’ll be starting a new series called “The Gifted” and we’ll be unpacking the topic of spiritual gifts. Sadly, this topic is sometimes avoided because of imbalance in certain parts of the body of Christ. To avoid such an important part of God’s plan for us is a big mistake. We’ll be looking at the nature, purpose, and possibilities of spiritual gifts as we walk through several chapters of Paul’s first letter to the Corinthian church. An understanding of these passages will set us free to be the people that God created us to be! Don’t miss this important series of discussions.
I’m attaching a flyer (below) for you to pass on as you invite family and friends to join us. And, on Sunday, don’t ever forget to go out of your way to make someone new feel more at home. It makes a big difference!
I also want to let you know about an important next step as we act on what we’ve learned. Next Sunday, Nov 6th, at 3:00 PM I will be joining Willy Mayfield for a special “Go Out” class at the Redland Campus. This class is part of our Journey series of growth seminars and focuses on helping people discover how they are wired to serve. Then, in the coming weeks, you’ll have the opportunity to explore ways to put your gifts and interests to Kingdom use.
It’s going to be a great weekend. Join me in praying that God does something amazing!
Seeking Him,
Sean

“Get In” Class
// October 13th, 2011 // No Comments » // Events, General
I wanted to send you a quick note to let you know about an exciting opportunity this weekend at River City Community Church Northwest. This Sunday at 1:30 in the sanctuary is our “Get-In” class. Get-in is the first class in our Journey series, and it is designed to give you information about River City and who we are and what we are all about. We will discuss our mission, vision, statement of faith, how we got started and how we ended up where we are today. At the end of the class, you will have the opportunity to enter into partnership with River City through membership. Even if you aren’t totally sure if you are ready to take that step, Get-In is a great chance to find out more information and ask any questions that you may have.
We are really excited about what God is doing at River City Northwest and we hope you can join us for this class. If you haven’t by in a while, we encourage you to come and check us out! A lot hs changed over the last couple of weeks, and I would love to personally invite you come and see what God is doing.
I hope you have a great week! I look forward to seeing you on Sunday!

Sunday Summary 10.09.11
// October 9th, 2011 // No Comments » // Uncategorized
Here is the recap from this weeks sermon (if you missed it, you can catch it here)…
Title: The New Man at Work
Big Idea: Joy at work doesn’t start with a new job. but with a new heart.
1. A new motivation (John 6:27)
2. A new measure (Ecclesiastes 5:18-20)
3.A new master (Colossians 3:23-24)
For you to think about this week:
1. Nearly 2/3 of all Americans hate their job. Are you one? WHy do you think so many people hate their job?
2. How did you come to posses your current financial paradigm? Would it be tough for you to change?
3. If you won the lottery, would yo ustay at your current job? What does that illustrate about your motivation for working?
Journal Exercise (take a few moments and write down your thougts in response to this question): If God is you master at work, what most needs to change about your work situation? What are you going to do about it this week?
To Pray about this week:
- Pray that God would give you the courage to trust His ability to provide for you.
- Pray that God would help you gain a healthy perspective on finances.
- Who in your world is hurting and needs prayer? Lift them up.
- Pray that God would continue to draw people to the Northwest Campus.
- Pray for the leadership of the Northwest Campus as we are obedient to God in reaching the community He has called us to.
This Week [10.6.11]
// October 6th, 2011 // No Comments » // Events, General, Sermons
Hey River City,
This week we are wrapping up our “Downgraded, Embracing Financial Reality” series. This is going to be a very powerful teaching as we unpack what we’ve learned so far and the implications it has for our work life. So many people struggle at work and intuitively know they are meant for something more! We all put in a lot of time on the job, and getting this area right can transform the direction of our lives. You don’t want to miss this one! Be sure to invite someone you know who could use some encouragement in their work life.
THEN…on Sunday evening at 6:00 PM, we’re meeting at our new Central Campus location for a huge baptism and time of worship on the hill! All three campuses will join together for this powerful celebration of faith. This is going to be a great weekend that you won’t want to miss! Be sure to bring blankets or lawn chairs to sit on.
We’ve got great things planned, so come early and be ready for God to do something amazing!
On the road to real life,
Sean
